The arrival of Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a welcome respite from CoD and Battlefield. Yeah, I know those two games are awesome, but to be perfectly honest, sometimes you just need to take a step back and look for other ways to satiate that bloodlust for guns and warfare. It’s like eating pasta; sometimes you need to try a different kind of sauce once in a while, am I right?

It’s been several years since we last saw Tom Clancy’s warriors making an appearance on our PC and consoles. It’s about time that they make a comeback, and it looks that they brought some cool upgrades with them, as well. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier packs a full set of futuristic hardware that every geek on the battlefield could possibly dream about.
I especially love the new optical camouflage uniforms. Hey, if anything makes killing the bad guys a lot more fun and easier, I’m all for it. Think Solid Snake’s stealth suit, but increase the lethality factor. I’d also like to mention the sensor grenades (that reveal the enemy positions), and the robotic weapons platforms, and it seems like Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier has done a pretty good job of rebooting itself from “Advanced Warfighter”.
Being set in the future, it makes it easier for the developers to play around and implement futuristic concepts regarding weapons, communications, and other wartime technologies. The gameplay elements in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier also make sure that we can effectively use all that fancy stuff without having a 100-page manual in front of us.
Playing the demo missions confirmed that Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier indeed shines as a multiplayer game (as it should). However, if you’re thinking that you can just waltz into battle like Rambo on speed, you’re going to have a bad time. The game rewards players who know how to apply teamwork, strategy, and judicious use of the available tech. Running a mission scenario like you’re Antonio Banderas in Desperado, however, will just make you very familiar with the restart screen.
We enjoyed playing the demo, and we cannot wait for the full game to be released in a week or so. If the news are accurate, it comes out on May 22nd for the XBOX 360 and PS3. For the PC gamers, though, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will be available in June.
